Barry became the director of Hometowne Barbershop Chorus in 2010, and has sung in the past with the local Polyhymnia Chamber Chorus. Barry is a biologist, retired from teaching and research, and is currently administering peer review of cancer research grants. He has maintained a life-long involvement in musical groups, both classical and jazz. 

Barry plays alto sax in the Take Four Sax Quartet (classical chamber music), banjo in the Village Jazz Band (dixieland), and tenor sax in the Paramount Jazz Orchestra (1920s traditional hot jazz). The Hometowne Chorus performs several times a month at various venues in Montgomery County.
