The Irrational Exuberance Quartet (formerly Acappella Fellas Quartet) is the latest incarnation of a group that has emerged periodically from the Hometowne USA Barbershop Chorus to deliver singing Valentines and perform at chorus concerts. This current foursome has been together since about 2012, and performs at chorus concerts as well as separately at various venues. The whimsical quartet name was prompted by a comment by Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan about financial market over-enthusiasm sometime before the 2008 crash. Also, as someone once said of Wagner, “His music is better than it sounds.” We humbly feel that might sometimes apply to us as well, so our name fits the idea.
Tenor Doug Mader works at his own architectural firm. Lead Jay Reiss is a retired metalurgical engineer whose other avocations are his history club and travel. Baritone Barry Davis does peer review of cancer grant applications and plays sax and banjo in several bands. Bass Dave Ruppert worked for the State of Maryland Assessment Office for 25 years and now enjoys singing his heart out for others.
